What If It All Works Out? The Art of Rewriting Our Stories
How “what if” journaling is teaching me to slow down, create, and trust possibility.
The last four months, I’ve noticed a recurring theme: life keeps inviting me to practice best-case-scenario thinking instead of slipping into the same old fear pattern.
HeatherAsh Amara calls it “disaster mind” in her book The Little Book of Big Freedom, and wow, don’t we all know that voice?
The voice that whispers:
“My business will fail and I’ll lose everything.”
“No one will want what I offer.”
“Someone else will do it better, and I’ll look foolish for even trying.”
But what if you could shift them into something entirely different?
“What if my business grows in ways that feel supportive and abundant?”
“What if my offers sell out even when I’m offline, resting, or at the beach”?
“What if my unique way of doing things is exactly what someone has been looking for?”
That tiny shift. That subtle but powerful redirection of energy out of fear into abundance, possibility and opportunity.
Because energy follows attention. The more we dwell in worst-case thinking, the more that frequency multiplies and mirrors back to us in real life: the struggle, the feast-and-famine cycles, the exhaustion.
Here’s the trap: worst-case-scenario thinking has its own gravity. It’s sneaky. At first, it looks like a slow, rusty train that you think you’ll just casually hop onto. But once you’re on, it transforms into a bullet train, hurtling you at light speed straight toward a destination you don’t want. And by then, you’re strapped in.
That’s why shifting away from fear isn’t just a mindset hack, it’s a pattern interruption. It’s a conscious choice to step off that train and onto another track entirely.
It’s not easy. Our brains are wired for survival. To anticipate danger and keep us safe. But that doesn’t mean we have to accept it; we still hold the power to choose differently.
One of my favorite what if statements has been (especially after years of overworking, overgiving, and constantly doing):
✨ What if slowing down brings a boatload of inspiration and creativity? ( And I recently added Wealth)
A lot of things changed for me on a business front over the last year. Moving on from clients was scary, and it definitely came with a lot of stress. But I realized my days were suddenly spacious in a way they hadn’t been for years. Honestly, not since I started my business in 2017.
And in that space? More inspiration and creativity than I’ve felt in a long time. I’ve been writing more, dreaming up circles & retreats, reading, meditating, working on my husband & I’s business, and deepening my studies. For the first time in a while, I am feeling excited about what both my husband and I get to create. And also reflecting on how far we've come.
It’s been a reminder that sometimes the very thing that feels like loss on the surface can open the doorway to our best-case scenario.
One way to help shift these patterns is to find someone safe to soundboard with. Choose a friend or partner who won’t hop onto the disaster-mind train with you but can gently redirect you toward a best-case scenario.
Start a “What If” journal. Each time you catch yourself spiralling into worst-case thinking, pause and write a best-case “what if” statement instead. Or, if you’re facing a challenge, write down best-case outcomes for it.
I began mine last July and already have 51 statements written down. On hard days, I flip through them, or I post a few to the fridge, so they’re in my line of sight. (Pro tip: add a gratitude and celebration/small wins section too. The combination is powerful.)
Set your intention, stay committed to the practice, and observe the quiet yet undeniable shifts unfold.
This isn’t a quick fix. But done intentionally, best-case-scenario thinking becomes a way of life. A way of slowly, gently changing everything…
I came across this from Jeff Moore recently, and it felt like the perfect reminder:
“Every time you switch ‘I can’t’ for ‘I’m figuring it out,’ you’re shifting from stuck to a calm, unstoppable confidence. Keep going.
Confidence is calm when it’s hectic.
Confidence is peaceful when there’s chaos around you.
Confidence knows every moment and every experience is elevating you.
Confidence knows all things are working for the greater good.
Stay calm. Stay confident.
Absorb all the lessons learned.
This type of education you can’t get in school.
Much respect. Keep going”

If this post stirred something in you, I’d love to know:
What’s one best-case-scenario “what if” you’re leaning into right now?
Share in the comments; I read every word. It’s my intention for this to become a space where we can remind each other of possibilities.
Thank you for being here.
Let’s keep choosing the best-case train together, one gentle “what if” at a time. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that best-case-scenario thinking isn’t wishful it’s powerful. And together, we get to practice rewriting our lives in the most beautiful ways.
All my love,

✧ If You’d Like to Support My Work
✨ One of my deepest intentions is to keep my writings, reflections, and mindfulness offerings accessible to all, without a paywall. It’s my way of honouring both accessibility and reciprocity: a model that trusts in generosity, values, and the exchange of energy.
I see this as part of a bigger shift we’re all being invited into, where following our dreams, sharing our lived experiences, and building community become their own form of contribution. Basically, getting paid to exist. I hope that my journey sparks something in you, too: a curiosity, a reminder that yes, it is possible to carve your own path, to create a living from what lights you up, and to do things differently.
If you feel called to support, you can donate any amount via hubby’s PayPal (Dynacor Gaming) until I settle on a long-term platform. Your support helps sustain this work and ripple it further out into the world. Thank you for walking alongside me in this journey we call life.

My what if is about a possible move abroad. Your post inspired me to change my narrative from "what if I hate it there" to "what if I find the home and community I've been longing for" The thought alone gave me butterflies (instead of the usual anxiety and doubt)
